The Sanilac County Community Foundation is pleased to announce that Margaret Mutch, graduate from Marlette High School is one of the recipients of the Sacred Heart Church Women’s Auxiliary Scholarship for 2019.

Margaret has participated in JV and Varsity Volleyball for four years and captain for two years, as well as Varsity Soccer for two years. Freshman year, Margaret also was a runner on the Varsity Cross Country team.  She is the Mathematical Academic Games Captain, Student Council Treasurer, National Honor Society President, and Business Professionals of America State/National Qualifier and Vice President.  She also often volunteers as Eucharistic Minister and Lector at her church, Sacred Heart of Brown City.  Margaret uses her pianist skills, refined over twelve years, as entertainment at the local nursing home and in Hospice fundraisers.  She has been a dancer at the Oehrlein Dance Studio for the past sixteen years in many different forms of dance.  Margaret has managed several Red Cross blood drives at the school as well.  For work, Margaret babysits, petsits, and housesits for a multitude of different families throughout the community.

In the past four years, Margaret has earned a multitude of awards and accolades.  Numerous of her awards stem from her various athletic activities, including All-Conference Scholar Athlete Award for Varsity Volleyball, Varsity Cross-Country, and Varsity Soccer.  She also earned the title of League Champions for Varsity Soccer her sophomore year.  Freshman year, she also earned the Tri-Athlete award and was a Cross-Country state qualifier.  In Volleyball, Margaret was awarded the Miss Red Raider award and two Captain awards.

A large portion of Margaret’s awards are from academia at school.  She won class Achievement awards in Biology, Geometry, English 9, Technology I, Algebra II, Forensic Science, Calculus, English 150, Oral Communications 201, Accounting II, and Personal Finance, as well as Certificates of Excellence in Scholarship, her Varsity Letter, and her academic letter, pin, and plaque.  In addition to these achievements, she has maintained a 4.00 GPA, been on the honor roll throughout all of high school, and earned the title of a Senior Scholar and Valedictorian.  Besides these, she has earned an immense amount of college credits while still in high school, and she has been awarded a place on the Sanilac County All-Academic Team and Greater Thumb All Conference First-Team.

Apart from school, Margaret’s multitudinous extracurriculars have amounted in many awards.  She has been a member of Business Professionals of America (BPA) all four years of high school. She has been a State Qualifier for Prepared Speech four times, State Qualifier for Medical Office Procedures three times, and a National Qualifier for Medical Office Procedures placing in the top twenty of the nation.  Having been on the Mathematical Academic Games team for four years, Margaret has won first place, as well as others, several times at both the Sanilac County Academic Games tournament and the Tuscola County Academic Games tournament.  In addition to that, she has competed at Sanilac County First Impressions for the past four years and earned the following awards:  three 2nd place medals in fiction, two 1st place medals in nonfiction, one 2nd place medal in nonfiction, four 1st place medals in video, one 2nd place medal in poetry, two 3rd place medals in poetry, one Honorable Mention medal in poetry, one 2nd place medal in photography, two Honorable Mention medals in photography, and one Honorable Mention medal in artistic poster.  For four years, she has competed in the Right to Life of Sanilac County speech contest and has won Honorable Mention, 3rd place and two 1st places.  At these competitions, Margaret has spoken on the topics of both abortion and euthanasia.  She has been a state qualifier both her junior and senior years. Margaret is the daughter of Drs. Robert and Janet Mutch of Marlette.

The purpose of the Sacred Heart Church Women’s Auxiliary Scholarship fund is to recognize a graduating high school senior(s), from one of the donor churches that are an active member of their community.
