The Sanilac County Community Foundation is pleased to announce that the Port Sanilac Garden Club Scholarship recipient is Lauren Maier.

Lauren is the daughter of Michael and Michelle Maier of Deckerville. She is a 2019 graduate of Deckerville High School and class Valedictorian.  She was chosen to be the DHS class of 2019 D.A.R. good citizen.  Lauren was a member of National Honor Society, FFA, and attended the Biotechnology program at the Sanilac Career Center.  Lauren earned gold and silver standard medals while competing in several leadership competitions at District and Regional levels.  Lauren is very interested in finding innovative and self-sustainable ways to produce the necessary quantities of food that will be needed to feed the world in the future.  She is most enthusiastic about poultry, greenhouses, vertical farming, herbs, essential oils, orchards and plant-based experiments.  She also has a passion for livestock, and currently raises ducks and chickens for meat and eggs.  Lauren will be attending Saginaw Valley State University this fall.  She will be majoring in Biology in preparation for a career in Botany.

The Port Sanilac Garden Club Scholarship Fund was established in 2012.  The purpose of the fund is to fund one scholarship annually to a graduating senior who is continuing their education in agriculture / horticulture.
