The Sanilac County Community Foundation is pleased to announce that Gabrielle Gough and Christopher Mutch are this year’s recipients of the Kim Rhead Leadership Scholarship.

Gabrielle is the daughter of Andy and Jamie Gough of Sandusky.  Throughout high school, she was involved in National Honor Society, Student Council, Basketball, Volleyball, Track, Softball, VFW Fish Fries, Moving Wall, Walk for Warmth, Food 4 Friends, War Memorial Project, and many more community activities.  Gabrielle will be attending Lawrence Technological University on a basketball scholarship to pursue a degree in nursing.

Christopher is the son of Drs. Robert and Janet Mutch of Marlette.  He graduated with high honors as both Summa Cum Laude and a Senior Scholar at Marlette.  As a four year Varsity Soccer player, National Honor Society secretary, Student Government president, and BPA president, Christopher was, and remains, very active in his community.  Additionally, Christopher works at Thumb Veterinary Services, as he will be attending the University of Arizona to study Pre-Veterinary Medicine before returning to Michigan for Veterinary School.

The Kim Rhead Leadership Scholarship was established in 1999.  Kim Rhead is a former state legislator from the 83rd District who now works in Lansing as a legislative and government affairs consultant.  He and his wife, Margaret, decided to start a scholarship fund to give something back to the community where they lived and raised their family for so many years.  This money goes to help students active in their school, church and community, but who may fall through the college funding cracks.  Awards are to go to gifted students, with special consideration to students that may not qualify for other assistance.

This scholarship is administered through the Sanilac County Community Foundation.
