Sanilac County Community Foundation is pleased to announce the recipient of the Fred Cady Scholarship is Emma Thompson. Emma is the daughter of Steve and Cindy Thompson of Melvin. She is a 2018 graduate of Peck High School. During high school Emma was involved in a variety of activities, including being the Student Council Secretary, National Honors Society Historian, and a member of the Quiz Bowl and Theatre. She is also a Skills USA Member, Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Foundation representative, and a Health Occupation Students of America member. Emma has earned a variety of awards including English, Biology, History, and Chemistry. She has also received recognition for earning the International Thespian Society award, International Thespian Society Vice President award, and Health Occupations Students of American silver medal. This fall Emma plans to attend Saginaw Valley State University to pursue a degree in occupational therapy.
The Fred Cady Scholarship Fund was established in September of 1998 by the Sanilac County Association of School Boards to honor Fred Cady, who retired after 22 years as an educator and administrator in Sanilac County. This scholarship is given annually for the educational needs of the Sanilac County area as determined by the Fund Advisory Board. It is administered through the Sanilac County Community Foundation.
