CHERYL THOMAS SCHOLARSHIP WINNER ANNOUNCED
Sanilac County Community Foundation is pleased to announce that Jessica Ruckman and Andrew Storm are this year’s recipients of the Cheryl Thomas Scholarship.
Jessica is the daughter of Bartley and Sarah Ruckman, who passed away in 2008 and 2012. She currently lives with her aunt, Rebecca Rogers. During high school, Jessica was involved in National Honor Society, Marlette Out of Doors Club, Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA), Softball, Basketball and Football Season Cheerleading. She has volunteered with the Marlette Out of Doors Club, United Hospice Service, Masonic Lodge, Hope Community Christian Church, Marlette Train Depot, Marlette Dog Days of Summer, Sports Boosters, American Red Cross, Halloween Fun Night, Junior High Dances, Pronto Mart, Hannah Wolfe, Sanilac County Senior Citizen Prom, and Toys for Tots. She plans to attend Oakland University this fall to study nursing and receive a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing to become a Registered Nurse.
Andrew is the son of Chris and Cathy Storm. He is a member of the National Honors Society. Andrew was a member and captain his senior year of the science academic team. He served on student council four years including treasurer his senior year. Andrew was a first team academic all-league selection. He was a member of the varsity soccer, basketball, and track and field teams. He received academic all-state one time in soccer, three times in basketball, and two times in track and field. Andrew will run track and field and pursue a chemistry related degree at Oakland University hopes of earning a doctorate in pharmacology.
The Cheryl Thomas Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in her memory in 2004 by her family. Cheryl had been a long-time coach in the Marlette Schools.
Eligible applicants for the annual scholarship must be graduating seniors of Marlette High School and have participated in sports.
