The Sanilac County Community Foundation is pleased to announce that Daelyn Albrecht-Wolschleger and Caitlin McDowell, graduates of Carsonville-Port Sanilac High School have been selected as the 2018 recipients of the Edward and Amelia Falls Scholarship.
Daelyn Albrecht-Wolschleger, daughter of Bernie and Carolyn Wolschleger, has been named a Senior Scholar of the Class of 2018. Daelyn was President of National Honor Society and was the co-captain of the English Academic team. She received a Silver Rating (3rd place) in the Agricultural Issues District Leadership Context in 2018, and a Gold Rating (1st place) in Agricultural Issues Regional Contest in 2018. Daelyn also received a Silver Rating in Prepared Public Speaking, a Bronze in AG Marketin gin Career Development Events, a Silver in Diversified Horticulture Placement, and an Outstanding Student Award. Daelyn has received class awards in English, Math, Science, and History. She has been on the Honor Roll all four years, received an award for Outstanding Scholastic Achievement (maintaining a GPA of 3.5-4.0), and Perfect and Outstanding Attendance. Daelyn is also very active in extra curricular activities as well. She is the co-captain of the varsity softball team, played volleyball 2 years, ran track 1 year and is the President of International Thespian Society Troupe 2173. She perfomed 8 productions in Port Sanilac’s Barn Theatre. She is also activiely involved with Ava Maria Parish youtyh group. Daelyn plans to attend Saginaw Valley State University this fall, then transfer to Michigan State University to pursue a career in Agriculture.
Caitlin McDowell, daughter of Angela and Doug McDowell. During high school at CPS, Caitlin was involved in theatre, academic teams, student council, and did volunteer work with the volleyball and softball teams, as well as National Honor Society. Helping people and organizations has always been a priority for Caitlin, and she plans to continue during college as well as make a career of it. In the spring, Caitlin plans to attend the University of Tampa to obtain a masters degree in psychology to become a mental health therapist.
The Edward & Amelia Falls Scholarship was established by Philomena Falls, a prominent Lexington resident since 1971 who passed away in 2008 at the age of 99. She was a strong supporter of public education, having spent more than forty one years in elementary education in the United States, Germany and Japan. After her retirement, she demonstrated her commitment to the education of Sanilac County residents through her leadership on the Moore Public Library Board in Lexington from 1972 until 1999.
Eligible applicants for the annual scholarship must be graduating seniors Carsonville-Port Sanilac High School.
