The Sanilac County Community Foundation, on behalf of the Kautz family, is pleased to announce the first ever recipient of the Andrew Kautz Memorial Scholarship is Cherokee Johnson.  Cherokee is a 2018 graduated from Peck High School with a 3.98 GPA and was a two-sport athlete (volleyball and softball).  She was also involved in numerous clubs and organizations around her school and in the county, including National Honor Society, Student Council and Youth Advisory Council (YAC), to name a few.  She will be attending Saginaw Valley State University this fall, double-majoring in criminal justice and psychology with a minor in English. Cherokee is the daughter of Tammi Johnson and Russ Winiarski.

The Andrew Kautz Memorial Fund has been established by family and friends to honor the life of Andrew Kautz and to help others pursue their education.  Eligible students will possess a 3.2 GPA or greater, and entering the field of Diesel Mechanics or Law Enforcement.  This scholarship is open to all Sanilac County graduating high school seniors.
