The Sanilac County Community Foundation is pleased to announce Madeline Huysentruyt as the 2025 recipient of the Thee Valhalla Scholarship.
Madeline Huysentruyt, daughter of Jacob and Elizabeth Huysentruyt, is a graduate of Sandusky High School. In high school she participated in Student Council, mascot committee, National Honor Society, band, drama, cross country, and track. Maddie is attending Central Michigan University pursuing a degree in Teaching Math and Social Studies for grades 5th through 9th.
The Thee Valhalla Scholarship was established by a 26-year veteran teacher of Sandusky High School to honor his Viking heritage and love for math. The term “Valhalla” is Scandinavian for “Viking Heaven.” This scholarship is awarded to students who have completed at least three years of advanced mathematics courses while also maintaining a 3.0 GPA or higher. His hope was that this scholarship would encourage graduates to either establish a similar fund themselves or continue to donate to this fund to perpetuate student interest in mathematics.
This scholarship is administered through the Sanilac County Community Foundation (SCCF). For more information on scholarship opportunities, visit www.SanilacFoundation.org or contact the Community Foundation office at 810-648-3634.
