The Sanilac County Community Foundation is pleased to announce the recipient of the James T. Whitfield Scholarship is Benjamin Kelley, a 2021 graduate of Croswell-Lexington Schools.
Benjamin is the son of Frederick and Alissa Kelley of Lexington. During high school he participated in quite a few extracurricular activities; varsity soccer, powerlifting, track, National Honor Society, Math and Science teams for Academic Games. Benjamin was captain of the varsity soccer team as well as the math academics team. Throughout his junior and senior years, he attended and participated at the Sanilac County Career Center. In the Career Center he was one of the SAE BAJA team Captains in the Engineering and Design Program. They built a SAE BAJA car from the ground up and tested it with endurance races to see how long it would last under pressure. Throughout his two years at the Career Center he learned a variety of skills; 2D and 3D Computer-Aided Design (CAD), Welding, Computer Numerical Control (CNC), Drafting, and Tool safety. Benjamin will be attending St. Clair County Community College.
The James T. Whitfield scholarship was established through a generous gift from the Whitfield Trust. The purpose of the fund is to provide a scholarship to a deserving graduating senior from Croswell-Lexington Schools who is planning to study engineering.
