The Sanilac County Community Foundation is pleased to announce the 2021 recipient of the Gary Kettlewell Memorial Scholarship is Leah Engler.
Leah Engler is a graduate of Peck High School. She is the daughter of Luke and Sandra Engler. Leah plans to attend Grace College in Indiana. Her activities during high school included Basketball, Softball, Volleyball, Track, Cross Country, Band, National Honors Society President, Class Officer, and Student Council. Leah was a member of the Sanilac FFA and chapter secretary. She has been very involved with 4-H for 13 years and with her church youth group, vacation bible school leader, and mission trips.
Gary was a 1967 graduate of Peck High School. He joined the Marines while in school and after graduation served in Vietnam. When he returned home from the service he went to college and graduated from Michigan State.
After his father’s death, he returned home to help his Mom run the farm . On April 19, 1985, Gary was on a tractor working the ground when he was struck by lightning and killed. Gary was 35 years old. His Mother established this agricultural scholarship for a Peck High School student in honor of his memory.
