The Sanilac County Community Foundation is pleased to announce that Emily Schaub and Daniel Macha are this year’s recipients of the Cheryl Thomas Scholarship.
Emily Schaub’s parents are Foster and Melissa Findlay and Travis and Jenny Barnes. During high school, Emily participated in cross country, volleyball, basketball, and track. She was also a member of the Marlette Out-of-Doors Club, National Honor Society, Class of 2018 Vice President for three years, and Student Council Vice President. Also, she was on the Science Academic Games Team for three years and the captain her senior year. During high school, Emily received a multitude of academic and athletic awards. This fall Emily plans to attend Oakland University to pursue a degree in Accounting. She will also be a member of their Track and Field Team.
Daniel Macha is the son of John and Sara Macha of Marlette. Throughout high school, Daniel was a member of the football, baseball, basketball, and cross country teams. He was involved in Student Council, Youth Advisory Council, National Honor Society, Academic Games, and Business Professionals of America. Next fall, Daniel will be attending Central Michigan University to study meteorology and statistics.
The Cheryl Thomas Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in her memory in 2004 by her family. Cheryl had been a long-time coach in the Marlette Schools.
Eligible applicants for the annual scholarship must be graduating seniors of Marlette High School that have participated in sports.
