Sanilac County Community Foundation is pleased to announce Lukas Franzel as the recipient of the Thee Valhalla Scholarship for 2024.

Lukas Franzel is the son of Jim and Jodi Franzel and a graduate of Sandusky High School. While in high school, Lukas played golf where he was awarded “Most Improved Player” for three years. He also played football from third grade through his senior year and was a member of the band for seven years. His sophomore year, he was initiated into the National Honor Society where he participated in many opportunities to volunteer in the community. Outside of school, Lukas enjoys hunting, fishing, golf, and being with his friends and family. He is attending Central Michigan University pursuing a major in Finance.

The Thee Valhalla Scholarship was established in 2002 by a 26-year veteran teacher of Sandusky High School to honor his Viking heritage and love for math. The term “Valhalla” is Scandinavian for “Viking Heaven.”  This scholarship is awarded to students who have completed at least three years of advanced mathematics courses while also maintaining a 3.0 GPA or higher. His hope was that this scholarship would encourage graduates to either establish a similar fund themselves or continue to donate to this fund to perpetuate student interest in mathematics.

This scholarship is administered through the Sanilac County Community Foundation (SCCF). For more information on scholarship opportunities through the Sanilac County Community Foundation, contact the Community Foundation office at 810-648-3634.

For Good. For Ever.
