The Sanilac County Community Foundation is pleased to announce the recipient of the Edward & Viviene Huntoon Memorial Scholarship is Kennedy Lefler.
Kennedy is the daughter of Stephanie Lefler and Mark Lefler, both of Marlette. Throughout high school at Marlette Jr. / Sr. High, she was involved in volleyball, softball, and National Honor Society. After completing Health Occupations, she was able to obtain a Certified Nurses Aid license. Kennedy plans to attend Grand Valley State University this fall to get a bachelor’s degree in Nursing, then go on to study to become a Physician Assistant.
The Edward & Viviene Huntoon Memorial Scholarship was originally established in 2009 in memory of Edward, and in 2017, the scholarship was extended to also commemorate the life of his wife Viviene. The Huntoons were married May 24, 1947 and Marlette quickly became their home.
Mr. Huntoon was an active businessman in the Marlette area, Viviene was a member of the United Methodist Church, and they were always committed to the importance of education. Their family is happy to be able to support Marlette students in their effort to attain a college degree with this one-thousand-dollar scholarship.
This scholarship is administered through the Sanilac County Community Foundation (SCCF). For more information on scholarship opportunities through the SCCF, contact Melissa Anderson, Executive Director, at the Foundation office at 810-648-3634.
