The Sanilac County Community Foundation is pleased to announce Samantha Tunich and Carly Old as the 2025 recipients of the Kent and Lucille Freeland Scholarship.

Samantha Tunich, daughter of Todd and Amy Tunich, graduated from Croswell-Lexington High School. During high school, she played volleyball and softball. She was a member of the National Honor Society and Student Council and served on the senior class Executive Board, where she volunteered at parades, concession stands, and school dances. Samantha is attending St. Clair County Community College studying Nursing.

Carly Old is a graduate of Croswell-Lexington High School, holding positions as a senior scholar, BWAC scholar, and high honor graduate During high school, she participated in track and field, cross country, volleyball, competitive cheer teams and was a member of the National Honor Society. Carly is attending the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor studying Applied Exercise Science with plans to obtain her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree.

The Kent and Lucille Freeland Scholarship was established in 2016 and has been established for Croswell-Lexington High School graduates who have attained a minimum of a C average in their four years of high school with preference given to students studying chemistry or physics. Mr. Freeland was a long-time dedicated teacher of physics and chemistry at Croswell-Lexington High School. He attended numerous National Science Foundation Seminars to provide his students with exciting and current science and technology. He inspired his students with a positive, respectful, and fun-learning environment.
