The Sanilac County Community Foundation is pleased to announce Eliza Nelson as one of the recipients for this year’s 2024 Kent and Lucille Freeland Scholarship.

Eliza is the daughter of Kenneth and Amy Nelson and a graduate of Croswell-Lexington High School. While in high school, Eliza participated in numerous activities which included marching band, theatre and the National Honor Society. She also participated in cross country, basketball, and soccer for all four years while holding a Bible study for 5th and 6th grade girls twice a month for the past two years. Eliza is attending the Vanguard program through Wheaton College. She selected Vanguard to transition between high school and college to better clarify the next steps towards her career and life goals.

The Kent and Lucille Freeland Scholarship Fund was established in 2016 for Croswell-Lexington High School graduates who have attained a minimum of a C average in their four years of high school and are in need of financial assistance to attend the accredited college, university, or trade school of their choice. Mr. Freeland was a long-time dedicated teacher of physics and chemistry at Croswell-Lexington High School.  He attended numerous National Science Foundation Seminars to provide his students with exciting and current science and technology. He inspired his students with a positive, respectful, and fun-learning environment.

This scholarship is administered through the Sanilac County Community Foundation (SCCF). For more information on scholarship opportunities through the Sanilac County Community Foundation, contact the Community Foundation office at 810-648-3634.
