The Sanilac County Community Foundation is pleased to announce Olivia Findlay as one of the 2024 recipients of the Lee and Thelma Flannigan Scholarship.
Olivia is a graduate of Marlette High School. During high school, Olivia was a member of the National Honor Society and Student Council, was a class officer and participated in Business Professionals of America and HOSA. She has earned her academic letter, plaque, and pin, and received classroom awards in Geometry, English, Algebra1, Algebra 2, Gym, Health, and Chemistry. She received academic all-state honors for four years. Olivia participated in varsity volleyball, basketball, and track and field receiving all-state honors in volleyball and track. She was a two-time state champ in Division 4 high jump as well as state champ in the long jump. Additionally, she has volunteered for multiple blood drives, Marlette Community Fall Family Fun Days, Park Prance and Monster Mash. Olivia is attending Wayne State University where she has received the Gold Scholarship and a track and field scholarship. She was accepted into the Nursing Program and is pursuing a career as a Nurse Anesthetist while participating in the women’s track team.
The Lee and Thelma Flannigan Scholarship was established to assist Marlette High School graduates who desire to further their education. Mr. and Mrs. Flannigan both realized the importance of education. As a farmer, a GM employee and a Marlette school bus driver, Mr. Flannigan knew the value of hard work. Mrs. Flannigan was a full-time homemaker in the early years of her marriage and then pursued a career in nursing, being the oldest student in the Licensed Practical Nursing program in Bad Axe. She was a part-time EMT and then an LPN at Marlette Regional Hospital for 18 years.
