The Sanilac County Community Foundation is pleased to announce Eliza Nelson as one of the 2024 recipients of the Kayla (Gordon) Kelly Scholarship.

Eliza is the daughter of Kenneth and Amy Nelson and a graduate of Croswell-Lexington High School. While in high school, Eliza participated in numerous activities which included marching band, theatre and the National Honor Society. She also played cross country, basketball, and soccer for all four years while holding a Bible study for 5th and 6th grade girls twice a month for the past two years. Eliza is attending the Vanguard program through Wheaton College. She selected Vanguard to transition between high school and college to better clarify the next steps towards her career and life goals.

This scholarship is in memory of Kayla (Gordon) Kelly, who was a graduate of Croswell-Lexington High School and “was a great student, played sports, was on the yearbook committee, and participated in drama productions.” After high school, went on to graduate from Ferris State University and worked for the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services in the Grand Rapids area. Kayla passed away on February 14, 2021. The family would like to remember Kayla as helping students through this scholarship.

This scholarship is administered through the Sanilac County Community Foundation (SCCF). For more information on scholarship opportunities through the Sanilac County Community Foundation, contact the Foundation office at 810-648-3634.
