The Sanilac County Community Foundation is pleased to announce that Callie Ball, graduate of Sandusky High School, has been named the 2023 recipient of the Kevin M. Pearce Memorial Scholarship.
“It is an honor to have been awarded the Kevin M. Pearce Scholarship, and there is no denying the fact that my future will benefit because of it. For that I am truly thankful. In the fall, I plan on attending Grand Valley State University to major in their Applied Food and Nutrition program. This will hopefully lead me to a career in the nutrition field. Throughout my time at Sandusky Jr./Sr. High School, I was a member of the National Honor Society and the band. I also spent one to two years on the basketball, volleyball, and competitive cheer teams. Participating in those activities have undoubtedly given me opportunities to succeed and venture out of my comfort zone, but the main reason for all of that is my parents. I am more than thankful for Carrie and Steve Ball. Furthermore, along with the Kevin M. Pearce Scholarship, I have received the Award for Excellence Scholarship from Grand Valley, Small & Rural Town National Recognition from College Board, Academic Excellence all four years at SHS, Perfect Attendance one year at SHS, and I was one of two Salutatorians of Sandusky’s Class of 2023.”
The Kevin Pearce Scholarship was established in 2001 in Kevin’s memory by his family to give students a chance to achieve, and to inspire the generations to follow. Kevin, a 1985 graduate of Sandusky High School, passed away on January 24 of 2001. He is remembered as an incredible person and friend who always “set the bar” higher for himself and always inspired others to achieve.
