“This grant round highlights both the incredible impact of endowed philanthropy in Sanilac County and the growing demand for unrestricted grantmaking dollars at the Community Foundation. While this round supplements our regular, year-round grantmaking, it is one of the only opportunities to award unrestricted funds—simply because those resources are so limited. This cycle, we received $272,944.80 in requests. Even after removing one unusually large request, there was still $122,944.80 in demonstrated, reasonable need across our local nonprofit sector. Ultimately, we were only able to award just over $20,000. That gap clearly illustrates the funding challenges many Sanilac County nonprofits continue to face. Looking ahead to 2026–2027, I plan to reimagine and strengthen our community grantmaking programs. If this work resonates with you, I encourage you to reach out and let us know you’d like to be part of the solution.” – Joshua Robinson, SCCF Executive Director
If you would like to support these grant opportunities, you can contribute to two dedicated funds at the Sanilac County Community Foundation:
- The Community Endowment Fund supports all grant initiatives of the Community Foundation. Eligible applicants must be a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, a unit of government, an educational institution, or a qualifying faith-based organization serving Sanilac County.
- The YAC Endowment Fund follows the same eligibility criteria as the Community Endowment Fund but is uniquely designed to elevate youth voice and leadership. Grant decisions are made by the Youth Advisory Council (YAC), a committee comprised entirely of high school students from across Sanilac County who are passionate about shaping the future of their community.
