The Sanilac County Community Foundation is pleased to announce Kennedy Lefler is this year’s Stanley G. Herron Memorial Scholarship recipient.

Kennedy is the daughter of Stephanie Lefler and Mark Lefler, both of Marlette.  Throughout high school at Marlette Jr. / Sr. High, she was involved in volleyball, softball, and National Honor Society. After completing Health Occupations, she was able to obtain a Certified Nurses Aid license. Kennedy plans to attend Grand Valley State University this fall to get a bachelor’s degree in Nursing, then go on to study to become a Physician Assistant.

Stanley G. Herron was born January 16, 1905 in Port Sanilac.  In the spring of 1908, the family moved to Marlette and Stanley spent 30 years on a farm 4 miles northeast of town.  After leaving the farm, he was co-owner and operator of the Standard Service Station at the corner of Main and Ervin Streets in Marlette for 30 years.  Stanley received all of his schooling in Marlette and graduated with the Class of 1925.

Eligible applicants for the annual scholarship must be graduating seniors of Marlette High School and the recipient will be determined by the Stanley G. Herron Memorial Scholarship Fund Committee.
