The Sanilac County Community Foundation is pleased to announce that Alexia Vlad is this year’s recipient of the James Mitchell Memorial Scholarship.

Alexia Vlad is the child of Stephanie Burch and Sebastian Vlad. In high school she was a part of the softball team, and national honors society. Alexia plans to attend St. Clair County Community College this fall and then transfer to Saginaw Valley State University to earn a bachelor degree in nursing and becoming a cosmetic nurse.

The James Mitchell Memorial Scholarship was established in 1999 in his memory by his father, Max Mitchell. James died in an accident on M46 near the current location of Carsonville-Port Sanilac High School at graduation time in 1974.  The scholarship provides financial assistance to a CPS graduating senior planning to pursue a career in a vocation or trade.

This scholarship is administered by the Sanilac County Community Foundation.  For more information on scholarship opportunities through the Sanilac County Community Foundation, contact Melissa Anderson, Executive Director, at the Foundation office at 810-648-3634.
