The Sanilac County Community Foundation is pleased to announce that Logan Solgat, Logan Marshall, and Emily Bell are this year’s recipients of the Cheryl Thomas Memorial Scholarship.

Logan Solgat is the son of Susan and the late Jerry Solgat of Marlette.  He plans to attend Ferris State University to pursue a degree in mechanical engineering.  While attending Marlette High School, Logan played soccer, basketball, and ran track.  Along with sports, he was a member of the Science Academic Games team, National Honor Society, and the Business Professionals of America.  Throughout his High School endeavors, Logan continuously kept a humorous personality and always made the best out of any situation.

 

Logan Marshall is the son of Jim and Heather Marshall of Marlette. A graduate of Marlette High School. During his time in high school, Logan was a part of Varsity baseball, basketball, football, golf, and cross country.  He was also part of Student Council, National Honor Society, Business Professionals of America, youth mentoring, youth sports camps, and weekly prayer group.  Logan will be attending Bethel University in Mishawaka, Indiana to pursue a degree in Elementary Education.

 

 

Emily Bell is the daughter of Jason and Jill Bell of Marlette.  A graduate of Marlette High School. During her time in high school, Emily participated in Health Occupations at the Sanilac Career Center, participated in Varsity Cheerleading, Varsity Girls Basketball, Softball and Track & Field.  She was also Class President, on National Honors Society, and Business Professionals of America.  Emily has helped with Marlette Community Project Rising Tide, Raider Aid, Marlette First United Methodist Church Sound/Audio Booth Volunteering, Marlette Park & Pool Swim Show, and American Red Cross & Michigan Blood drives.  Emily plans to attend University of Michigan – Flint this fall.

The Cheryl Thomas Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in her memory in 2004 by her family.  Cheryl had been a long-time coach in the Marlette Schools.

Eligible applicants for the annual scholarship must be graduating seniors of Marlette High School that have participated in sports.
