Luke Martino is this year’s 2017 recipient of the Dave Blank Athletic & Leadership Scholarship.

In the fall of 2017, Luke plans to attend Western Michigan University where I will be pursuing my degree in Aviation Flight Systems to become a commercial airline pilot.  While attending Sandusky High School, Luke was active in wresting (4), track (2) and football (2), marching and jazz bank (1), student council (2) and a four-year honor roll student.  Some of his volunteer activities include; Sanilac Flags of Remembrance, the Vietnam Moving Wall project, Food 4 Friends, Red Cross blood drives, highway clean-ups, Detroit Rescue Mission and two mission trips, the Relief for Kansas Wildfires and a trip to Haiti.  Luke was enrolled in the Engineering & Design BAJA Program at the Sanilac Career Center, and was both JR and SR BAJA captain for that program.  Luke’s parents are Greg and Carol Martino.

The family of Dave Blank, and Sanilac County Community Foundation, proudly award the first annual Dave Blank Athletic and Leadership Scholarship in memory of Dave. Each year this scholarship will be awarded to a student who’s athletic and leadership qualifications, along with his varied volunteer and work experiences, are an embodiment of the life that Dave lived.

Dave’s high school experiences in sports and leadership prepared him for a successful team-building career in hiring, managing, and guiding many men and women to meet their potentials and to fulfill successful careers.

This scholarship is administered through the Sanilac County Community Foundation.  For more information on scholarship opportunities through the Sanilac County Community Foundation, contact Melissa Anderson, Executive Director, at the Foundation office at 810-648-3634.
